1999 - 2005
Mobys is the synthesis of the Endless Summer and the iconic Aussie beach house, referencing the mid-century modern coastal weekender.
The $20 million (2005) development blends the laid-back Aussie beach house with twenty first century convenience and sophistication.
There are 75 timber framed beach holiday houses, consisting of four basic house types. These are arranged and attached in multiple ways, providing great variations of wedge-shaped forms and massing throughout the site.
The buildings literally touch the ground lightly; the 75 timber framed beach houses are constructed off timber piles, whilst the restaurant, conference facilities and resort management centre are also lightweight eco-friendly constructions employing a range of materials procured from renewable sources.
We formed a great working team consisting of clients Craig and Sonya Clark, Lindsay & Dynan engineer Kevin Dynan and landscape architect Matthew Taylor of Taylor Brammer Landscape Architects. The result is archietcture, engineering and landscaping are intertwined to provide a cohesive whole with a continual flow of landscape spaces throughout the development.
All buildings face north and provide natural cross ventilation.
In 2005 Mobys development recieved a Great Lakes Council Environment Award.
