UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND - BELLEVUE RUGBY OVAL GRANDSTAND

2008 - 2009

Being commissioned by the University of New England was something of a home-coming, as my final secondary school years were spent at boarding school in Armidale. So not only was the university campus quite familiar, but also the role rugby union plays in community life in the region.

With rugby union strong in Armidale, Bellevue Rugby Oval is not only the UNE team’s home ground, but also the traditional grand final venue for the New England Region. The new facility needed to provide both functional spaces and community entertainment space.
Team and referee change rooms, first aid and public amenities are located on the lower level, whilst the upper level is devoted to a large indoor / outdoor viewing pavilion and a function centre with bar and canteen. These facilities are located at the rear of the covered tiered seating, overlooking the playing field.

Sustainability provisions include large capacity rainwater tanks collecting roof water for oval irrigation and toilet flushing, cross ventilation, and energy efficient fittings.

We provided lead consultant services for brief development, design, tender documentation, and construction phase services.
