2010 - 2013
An adaptive reuse of an industrial building, the project was both interesting and challenging. The building envelope was divided vertically into industrial units stepping down with the site contour levels, whilst our brief was to provide single-floor childcare units arranged horizontally across the building.
We reconfigured the five level building to accommodate 3x 70 place childcare centres, each occupying one level of the building, with the two lowest levels converted to parking spaces.
After stripping the building back to a shell, the floor plates of the upper two levels were extended to provide outdoor activity areas.
A new centralised entry and vertical circulation was inserted mid-way along the building and new building services provided throughout.
Post development approval, the building was sold to a childcare operator for whom the office completed construction certification documentation and provided construction phase services.
